IAN KERR Chair Of Trustees
Ian co-founded international development charity ActionAid in the early 1970s. He has since worked extensively in the charity sector and started one of the UK’s leading fundraising consultancies.
Until recently, he worked with a charity in Nepal which rescues and cares for trafficked children.
HUW JONES - Founder & Executive Director
Huw has over 25 years’ experience working in Africa. He was a professional safari guide for many years, and subsequently worked in rural development and education e-learning development. He also consulted for the UN in Maastricht and for local government in Norfolk, UK.
Huw is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and holds an MSc in Environment and International Development from the University of East Anglia.
DAVID DUTTON Trustee
David has been a hands on business angel in a number of small company start-ups, alongside working as an Executive Director for a major UK media company and several of its subsidiaries.
David studied at the University of Cambridge (BA Economics) and Harvard University (MBA summa cum laude).
GAVIN MARSH Hon Treasurer & Trustee
Gavin is a Chartered Management Accountant, with over 20 years’ post-qualification experience. He has held a number of directorships and senior finance roles in subsidiaries of international blue chip engineering and commercial companies.
Gavin studied at the University of Oxford (BA Honours Chemistry).
JAMES PHIRI Zambia Trustee
James is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and has held a number of senior finance roles in FTSE multinationals. He is an Executive Director of The John Maxwell Team, certified to facilitate, speak, train and coach individuals and groups in the areas of leadership development, professional skills and personal growth
James is also involved in a number of charitable projects and is particularly passionate about youth and community development projects.
IAN CLARKE Trustee
Ian has 30 years’ experience in the IT industry and is currently Chief Technology Officer for dmgi::land&property Europe.
Ian studied at the University of Manchester (Physics and Electronics).
DR MIKE THOMPSON Trustee
Mike has been a doctor for over 25 years. In the past he has worked in a rural Mission hospital in Zimbabwe and has 15 years’ experience as a UK charity trustee.
Mike studied at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine).
NAGGIB CHAKHANE Trustee
Naggib is a certified executive coach, international speaker and leadership trainer. A seasoned finance and corporate strategy professional, Naggib spent the last 20 years consulting with, or as part of the management team of various multinational corporations in the UK, USA, Central Asia, Japan and Africa. Naggib trained as a Certified Accountant in the UK, and holds an MBA from Surrey Business School.
KATHY BURKE Trustee
Kathy is a scientist with a background in reproductive health and HIV, who has worked in both the non-profit sector and the Federal government in the US, and more recently, as a teacher in the UK. She has been involved for many years with a number of educational and health-related charities, either as a Trustee, fundraiser or advisor. She holds an MSc in Genetics from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
DR DIANA FORREST MBE Trustee
Diana is a qualified doctor, with experience in both developing countries and in the UK. She was awarded an MBE for “services to public health”. Starting her public health activities in Tower Hamlets, she was Director of Public Health in Knowsley, Merseyside for over 12 years. She has previous voluntary roles linking church and community. She currently has close involvement with Churches Together activities including setting up a Winter Night Shelter for the homeless and is also Trustee of Mildmay Mission Hospital.
ROS BIRD Head of Fundraising
Ros has 20 years’ experience working in the not for profit sector. She holds the Diploma in Marketing with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the International Advanced Diploma in Fundraising with Institute of Fundraising (IoF). Prior to taking her latest role which focuses on Fundraising, Communications and Volunteer Management for the charity, between 2013 – 2017 she was a Virtual Doctors Trustee & the HR/Board Secretary.
Ros previously lived in Kenya.
JO NOLAN - Business Executive Assistant
Jo is covering Lina Woehrling's maternity leave. She worked for nearly a decade at the BBC as a producer of current affairs and news programmes. She recently completed her PhD in linguistics at SOAS, London.
Jo has travelled extensively in Africa, both for work and pleasure.
Simon qualified as a doctor in 1997, and after time in Australia finished his GP training in Yorkshire. He is currently a partner in a GP practice in Bingley and also works at the local skin cancer clinic. In 2012 he worked at an NGO clinic in Malawi.
Terry has spent over 50 years in IT working on everything from 1950’s valve computers to mobile phones, involving operations, networks, and software development. He worked mainly in the UK, but with some time in South Africa and Canada, working on systems for banks, insurance companies, government and commercial companies.
He founded and ran his own IT company for 5 years creating and selling an online payroll system.
Since retiring in 2015 he has helped a number of charities with their IT.
