The Road to Kanakantapa

Like most rural roads in Zambia, they tend to be dusty, bumpy and hard to drive on for many hours, reducing vehicles to rattling wrecks after just a few months. In the rainy season they become muddy, wet, quagmires, where both car and bicycle get bogged down and stuck.

Referrals to distant hospitals are hard at the best of times, much more so during the rainy season, which is why reducing unnecessary referrals is so important and why the Virtual Doctors is a very useful support tool for the Clinical Officers.
